Kate and Chris | Newport Beach Maternity Session

I’ve known Kate for several years now. We met in the photography world at some point, I can’t remember when, and shared a love for sarcasm and people who are genuine. I remember clearly the day she told me she was pregnant. We were having lunch together and I just had this feeling she had something to tell me. About half way into lunch she told me the big news and I shouted, “I KNEW IT!” After lunch we went to The Little Market at Fashion Island and I bought tiny handmade mittens for her baby boy or girl.

It always makes me so nervous to photograph fellow photographers as I feel like my work will be looked at with a more critical eye. Luckily, Chris and Kate were pros in front of my camera and made me feel so inspired during our shoot.

Chris and Kate decided they wanted to a do their Maternity Session on the sand in Newport Beach, California. I felt like the location was the perfect fit for their laid back, casual, and fun demeanor together. I love that Kate was beach ready in her bikini which showed off her baby bump perfectly. Funny enough, she ordered the hat in these photos from Anthropologie for our shoot but it didn’t come in time. Luckily, I had the SAME hat so we used mine as a substitute. Her hat ironically arrived a day later. I always encourage my Maternity clients to bring a fun prop or accessory that adds some flair and personal style to their session.

The thing I love most about this session is how connected these two are in their Maternity images. Chris did such a great job of constantly admiring how beautiful and glowing this soon-to-be mama was and it showed in the shots. It’s clear that their bond as partners is going to make them terrific parents.
