Baby Greyson | Newborn Session | Newport Beach, CA

I got to meet baby Greyson for the first time on a beautiful sunny day in Newport Beach, California. It hadn’t been long since we had shot Sonya’s beach Maternity Session so it was surreal to see his sweet face in person. I walked into Brandon and Sonya’s home and immediately felt a sense of calm and peace. Greyson had finally arrived and mom and dad were getting to know their little boy in the warm safety of their home.

Sonya and I chatted about her home birth before our session began.

“Yeah, I actually gave birth to him right where you’re standing.”

I got chills.

There’s something so sacred about being in a place where new, pure energy has emerged. I could feel the remnants of immense love and overwhelming joy from their baby boy’s birth a few days prior as I walked through their home... like specs of dust still floating through sunbeams.

Baby Greyson searched the room knowingly throughout our session, studying his surroundings as if to say, “So this is Earth.” And his mom and dad, eyes glazed over with adoration, glanced down to his sweet face as if to say, “We’ve been waiting so long to meet you.”

Sonya and Brandon have an incredible window in the living room of their home. I walked into the space and immediately knew I wanted to capture some intimate moments with the family here.

The family’s first baby is their fur baby, Jordy. It was hilarious to watch him get used to having to share his mom and dad with the new baby. He went through phases of being very nervous around Greyson to very curious. I’m certain they’ll be best friends in no time once he realizes Greyson is part of his pack.

It’s such a wonderful opportunity when I can capture a newborn with his eyes open. A sleeping baby is so pure and peaceful, but there’s something about a baby that looks right at you that helps you to connect to their beautiful new soul. I love how much personality Greyson has already!
